IB Literature of the Americas

March 31/April 1

After viewing the end of the film of Like Water for Chocolate, we discussed important themes in the novel in preparation for the IB Detailed/Imaginative Study. I introduced and gave out a reading schedule for Gabriel Garcia Marquez' Chronicle of a Death Foretold. The homework is to read chapters 1 and 2.

March 31/April 1

Students presented their Artistic Responses to Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf. I gave out a reading schedule for Toni Morrison's Sula and the 2009 AP/IB exam schedule. The homework is to read p. 1-16 of Sula.

Today we finished the amazing My Antonia IB Oral Presentations. I collected the essays.

I introduced Laura Esquivel's Like Water for Chocolate and the homework is to read chapters 1 and 2.

Today we viewed and discussed the end of Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.

I introduced Virginia Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway. The homework is to read p. 3-29.

The IB Oral Presentations on My Antonia will continue. Essays on the novel are due March 3/4.

We will continue viewing Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. IB Certificate and Diploma students should be studying for the taped orals. Hamlet passage packets with annotations are due.

IB Literature of the Americas

February 10/11

Today we discussed the beginning of Book 2 of My Antonia. Students worked in small groups to respond to poems and letters from the plains. I also assigned a found poem.
The homework is to finish Book 2 of the novel.
